UNCCA May Seminar 2024
In 2024, UNCCA will celebrate its ten years of existence. We invite you to attend a day of celebrations during which we will commemorate our achievements, analyse the recent UNCITRAL conventions and texts and reflect on the future work of UNCITRAL.

About the Event
In 2024, UNCCA will celebrate its ten years of existence. Join us for a full day conference to celebrate this anniversary whilst learning about the work of UNCITRAL and its Working Groups. The day will be split between plenary sessions, panel sessions, and concurrent thematic roundtable sessions. We are pleased to announce the Honourable Robert French AC (former Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia) will be delivering the keynote presentation at this year’s event.
Online attendance will also be available for our May Seminar, however, in-person participation is strongly encouraged.

9 AM Welcome by Justice Markovic (Federal Court of Australia).
9.10 - 9.20 AM Special Address by Luca Castellani (Legal Officer, UNCITRAL Vienna).
9.20 - 9.30 AM Special address by Athita Komindr (Head of the UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific).
09.35 - 10.15 AM Keynote by the Honourable Robert French AC (former Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia).
10.45 - 11.30 AM SESSION I: Plenary on UNCCA panel including former founders Tim Castle SC (Barrister, NSW Bar) and Associate Professor Dr Lisa Spagnolo (UNCCA Director; Macquarie University), and past members Thomas John (formerly of the Attorney-General’s Department), and the Honourable Roger Gyles AO KC (former Justice of the Federal Court of Australia; arbitrator and mediator).
11.30 AM - 12.15 PM SESSION 2: Plenary on UNCCA panel: present of UNCCA including Dr Dalma Demeter (UNCCA Director and former UNCCA Deputy Chair), the Hon. Neil McKerracher KC (former Justice of the Federal Court of Australia; former UNCCA Chair), Dr Jessica Viven-Wilksch (UNCCA Deputy Chair; The University of Adelaide), Adam Kirk and Alistair Dunbar (Attorney General’s Department).
1.00 - 2.00 PM Breakout sessions;
Theme 1: Cross-border insolvency facilitated by Scott Butler (Hall & Wilcox; EAC WG V (Insolvency) Chair; UNCCA Director);Â
Theme 2: UNCITRAL, automated contracts and data provisions facilitated by Dr Benjamin Hayward (Monash University).
2.20 - 3.00 PM SESSION 3: Plenary on the Convention on the International Sale of Goods: its making and its future including Dr Lisa Spagnolo, Dr Benjamin Hayward and Dr Jessica Viven-Wilksch.
3.00 - 4.00 PM SESSION 4: UNCITRAL and Alternative Dispute Resolution including Dr Drossos Stamboulakis (UNCCA Director, EAC WG II (Arbitration) Chair; Monash University), Delcy Lagones de Anglim (UNCCA Director, international ADR practitioner) and Paulina Kruminaite (Legal Officer, DFAT).
