UNCCA invites you to join us for the 2024 UN Day Lecture: "What has Taxonomy Ever Done for Us? UNCITRAL’s 2023 ‘Taxonomy of Legal Issues Related to the Digital Economy"
This year, we will hear from the Honourable Justice Jackman (Federal Court of Australia), with commentary by Professor Jeannie Paterson (University of Melbourne) as they discuss novel issues related to digital assets within the emergent digital economy - issues of significance to lawyers, regulators and financial institutions.
The event will take place in person at the Federal Court in Sydney and will be followed by refreshments. A livestream link will be available for those unable to attend in person.

Justice Ian Jackman was appointed to the Federal Court on 6 February 2023. His Honour was admitted as a barrister in the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1989 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2002. While at the Bar, Justice Jackman specialised in commercial and company law and has also published works including in the Cambridge Law Journal and Australian Law Journal. The first edition of his Honour’s book ‘The Varieties of Restitution’ was published by the Federation Press in 1998, and the second edition in 2017.
Professor Jeannie Paterson is a professor of law (Consumer Protection and AI) and the founding co- director of the Centre for AI and Digital Ethics at the University of Melbourne. Jeannie’s teaching and research focuses on consumer and data protection law and ethics in the context of emerging digital technologies. Jeannie is an affiliate researcher with the Melbourne Social Equity Institute and the Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society as well as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law.
The UN Day Lecture series is an annual initiative of UNCCA to highlight the work of UNCITRAL for practitioners and students. Please find the physical locations for the event in Sydney below. The lecture will also be live streamed online.
