UNCITRAL Asia Pacific organises Side Event at APTFF 2017 on “Taking FTA electronic commerce chapters

From the Regional Centre:

The 8th Asia-Pacific Trade Facilitation Forum (APTFF) is co-organised by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the Asia Development Bank and the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs Indonesia and will take place between 5 and 8 September 2017.   The theme for this year’s APTFF is Trade Facilitation Innovations for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific.  For more information on the APTFF please visit the website. The theme of the morning half-day UNCITRAL-RCAP Side Event will be “Taking FTA electronic commerce chapters seriously : UNCITRAL texts for mutual recognition of electronic communications and signatures”.   This event aims at building capacity on implementation of UNCITRAL e-commerce texts, to assist in complying with electronic commerce chapters included in FTAs.  Government officials, representatives from international organisations and development agencies, trade facilitation service providers and trade and development policy analysts and researchers from the region are welcome to join us and share their views on this exciting topic which is being explored for the first time.

The Side Event will consist of two sessions, each session will last for about 1.5 hours :

  • Session 1 : Electronic commerce chapters in FTAs – How they were negotiated and how they are expected to contribute to trade?

  • Session 2 : UNCITRAL texts on e-commerce – How they can assist in implementing FTAs and trade facilitation measures?
